Fall Comfort Food From Our Deli & Grill (and the Coffee to Go With It)

The Turkey Terrific grilled panini from Anthony's Food Shop, with turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce on toasted multigrain bread

November is the time of year when the mornings start to really feel like winter, and the drop in temperature makes things drag a little slower. The beaches have emptied, the sun sets earlier, and there's more time to appreciate the simple pleasures in life. Now, thoughts of a warm weather day are fewer and farther between, giving all the more reason for looking forward to mid-day pick-me-ups.

At Anthony's Food Shop, our deli has been crafting Anthony's signature style sandwiches for decades. Our grill turns out some longtime favorites of Southern Maine residents, as well as those passing through. With November upon us, we wanted to share a couple of favorites we keep coming back to this time of year, along with the Anthony's Small Batch Roasters coffees we'd recommend sipping alongside them for a delicious, well-rounded refuel whenever your day calls for it.

The Turkey Terrific & Sumatran Mandheling Organic

If there's one sandwich that tastes like this season, it's the Turkey Terrific. This grilled panini bound by delicious multigrain bread is made with Boar's Head turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and sage mayo. It's all of the best flavors of a holiday dinner in one sandwich, and with Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, it's the one we'd point you towards for a little preview.

For a coffee that complements it, we're recommending our Sumatran Mandheling Organic medium roast. With a classic, full Indonesian body and notes of baker's chocolate, mild cherry, and a tangy finish, it brings out the sweet-tart cranberry while standing up to the savory turkey and stuffing. It's also organic and fair-trade, so it's a cup you can feel good about, too.

The Chicken Tip Sub & French Roast

On a chilly afternoon, it's hard to beat a hot sub piled high with premium ingredients and signature Anthony's flavor. Our Chicken Tip Sub starts with chicken breast tips cooked on the grill and flavored with your choice of Teriyaki, Cajun, or BBQ sauce. In addition to whatever cheese you'd like, we add grilled peppers, onions, and mushrooms to make one of the best all-around hot subs that Southern Maine has to offer.

Something so delicious deserves a worthy pairing that allows it to stand by itself, while also adding to the flavor mix. Our French Roast is our own blend of Indonesian and Central American coffees that's smokey and aggressive, but never bitter. Its smoky notes match the char on the chicken and peppers, and it has enough body to hold its own.

Short on Time? Grab and Go

Some days don't leave room to wait for an order, or even place one - and that's okay. Our deli team makes fresh subs ahead of time, so you can walk in, grab one, and be back on your way. Our own slow-roasted roast beef, piled high on a fresh roll with fresh vegetables and your choice of condiments, is a classic for a reason. There are plenty of other fresh options alongside it as well, and each one is made fresh by the same team behind our deli counter.

To help you keep the pep in your step on the go, we'd pair it with our Moka Java medium roast coffee. As the world's oldest and most well-known coffee blend, it's famous for its richness and smooth finish, and it's an easy, reliable cup that goes with just about anything - especially a quick lunch or a busy day.
